IV. Installation and operation
Installation position and dimensions
The module consists of three thyristors enclosed on a radiator which has a thermostatic switch. A fan is provided under the radiator. When the temperature of the radiator is over 45°, the fan starts. When the temperature is over 80°, the module will not operate. The module can be installed on the rack of the compensation device. See Fig. 1 for opening in module installation; see Fig. 2 for dimensions of the module.
This module can control either 3-phase capacitor or single-phase capacitor. When the module controls 3-phase capacitor, the rated operational voltage is 380V; the capacitor can be 0.45KV; the control signal includes one positive control signal and one negative control signal. The module has 10 terminals, including 6 main terminals to connect 6~25mm2 insulated conductors (conductors must be connected by terminal) and 4 control signal terminals to connect 1.5mm2 insulated conductors. It is suitable for balance type compensation. The definition of module terminal for balance type compensation is shown in Fig. 3. When the module controls single-phase capacitor, the rated operational voltage is 220V; the capacitor can be 0.23KV; the control signal includes one positive control signal and three negative control signals; the module has 12 terminals; it is suitable for split phase type compensation. The definition of module terminal for split phase type compensation is shown in Fig. 4.
Selection of short circuit and overload protection devices for module: NT00 or RL8B fast acting fuse (or miniature breaker) is used to protect the module. The rated current of the fuse core is 1.5 times of the rated line current of capacitor. Additionally, a reactor should be installed in the peripheral circuit to restrict the harmonic and prevent damage to the module caused by resonance.

This module must be used together with RVC reactive dynamic compensation controller to realize ideal reactive dynamic compensation. The total capacity calculation of the compensation device is same as that of general static compensation device, but the capacity of each step should be distributed by code, e.g. 1-2-2····
or 1-2-4-4····, thus the capacity grading of each step can be detailed to reduce the quantity of modules, failure and cost, and optimize the compensation effect.
